If you’re looking to clear out this clutter and start fresh, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to delete recent files in InDesign.

Step 1: Access the Recent Files Menu

To begin, open InDesign and navigate to the “File” menu at the top left corner of the screen. From the dropdown menu, select “Recent Files.” This will display a list of your most recently opened documents.

Step 2: Clear Individual Files

If you only want to remove specific files from the list, simply click on the file you wish to delete and press the “Delete” key on your keyboard. A confirmation dialog will appear, asking if you’re sure you want to delete the file. Click “Yes” to proceed.

Step 3: Clear All Recent Files

If you want to clear the entire list of recent files, you can do so by clicking on the “Clear Recent Files” option at the bottom of the Recent Files menu. This will remove all files from the list, ensuring that your InDesign workspace is clean and uncluttered.

Step 4: Customize the Recent Files List

InDesign allows you to customize the number of recent files displayed in the menu. To do this, go to “Edit” > “Preferences” > “File Handling.” In the “Recent Files” section, you can adjust the number of files shown in the list. Once you’ve made your changes, click “OK” to save them.

If you want to prevent future files from appearing in the recent files list, you can turn off this feature by going to “Edit” > “Preferences” > “File Handling.” In the “Recent Files” section, uncheck the “Remember Recent Files” option.
