How to Make Hot Press Coffee: A Guide to the Perfect Brew

Hot press coffee, also known as Aeropress coffee, has gained popularity in recent years for its versatility and ease of use. This method of brewing coffee allows you to enjoy a rich, full-bodied cup every time. Whether you’re a coffee aficionado or just looking to improve your morning routine, learning how to make hot press coffee is a valuable skill. In this article, we’ll walk you through the steps to make the perfect hot press coffee at home.

What You’ll Need:

  • Aeropress
  • Finely ground coffee beans
  • Boiling water
  • A coffee mug
  • A timer
  • A spoon or stirrer

Step 1: Measure Your Coffee

Start by measuring out your coffee beans. A general rule of thumb is to use one standard coffee scoop (about 18 grams) of coffee for every six ounces of water. Adjust the amount to suit your taste preference.

Step 2: Heat the Water

Boil a pot of water and let it cool down to around 200°F (93°C). This is the ideal temperature for brewing hot press coffee. If you don’t have a thermometer, you can use the “bloom” method to check the water temperature. Pour a small amount of water over your coffee grounds and wait for it to start bubbling, which indicates that the water is at the right temperature.

Step 3: Prepare the Aeropress

Place the Aeropress on a flat surface and unfold the filter. Add your measured coffee grounds to the bottom of the Aeropress.

Step 4: Bloom the Coffee

Pour a small amount of hot water (about 30-40 mL) over the coffee grounds. Wait for about 30 seconds to allow the coffee to “bloom,” which releases CO2 and helps to extract the flavors from the grounds.

Step 5: Pour the Remaining Water

Start pouring the remaining hot water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion, ensuring that all the grounds are saturated. Use a timer to keep track of the brewing time, which should be around 1 minute and 15 seconds for a standard cup of coffee.

Step 6: Stir and Press

After the brewing time is up, stir the mixture for about 10 seconds to ensure even extraction. Then, place the plunger on top of the Aeropress and press it down slowly and steadily until all the water has passed through the grounds and into the mug below.

Step 7: Enjoy Your Hot Press Coffee

Serve your hot press coffee immediately while it’s still hot. You can add milk, sugar, or any other desired flavorings to customize your cup.

By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to make a delicious cup of hot press coffee at home. Experiment with different coffee beans, grind sizes, and brewing times to find your perfect cup of coffee. Happy brewing!
