Memoir of Summer- A Vocabulary Journey Through My Vacation Days
How I Spent My Summer Vacation Vocabulary
This summer, I had the opportunity to travel to various places, which allowed me to experience new cultures and expand my vocabulary. From exploring ancient ruins to enjoying the local cuisine, my summer vacation was filled with a variety of activities that enriched my language skills.
One of the highlights of my summer vacation was a trip to Greece. As I wandered through the picturesque streets of Athens, I encountered numerous Greek words that I had never heard before. I spent my days visiting historical sites such as the Parthenon and the Acropolis, where I learned about the rich history of the country. Some of the new vocabulary words I encountered included “stoa,” which refers to a long building with a portico, and “peristyle,” a courtyard surrounded by columns.
Another exciting destination on my summer vacation was Italy. The vibrant city of Rome was a feast for my senses, and I found myself immersed in the Italian language and culture. I visited the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain, all of which provided me with new vocabulary words. For instance, “colosseum” is the Latin word for “large building,” and “fountain” is the Italian word for “fontana.”
My summer vacation also included a visit to the United States, where I spent a week in New York City. This cosmopolitan city offered a wealth of new words to learn. I visited the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, and the Empire State Building, all of which provided me with new vocabulary. One of the words I learned was “skyscraper,” which refers to a tall building with many floors.
While traveling, I also had the chance to try out new cuisines, which introduced me to a variety of food-related vocabulary. In Greece, I tried “gyros,” a dish made of seasoned meat grilled on a vertical spit. In Italy, I indulged in “pasta,” a staple of the Italian diet. And in the United States, I savored “hot dogs,” a popular street food.
My summer vacation was a delightful journey that not only allowed me to explore new places but also expanded my vocabulary. From the ancient ruins of Greece to the bustling streets of New York City, each destination provided me with new words to learn and memories to cherish. As I reflect on my summer vacation, I am grateful for the experiences that have enriched my language skills and broadened my horizons.
